Farmville game on Facebook is fun and yet a very interesting game. To be honest, when I’m playing the game, a lot of planning and thinking comes into place. It actually reminds me when I was studying the subject of investment and personal finance in college.

How could that be? Farmville is just a silly game, not Wall Street!

That’s what I thought. There’s actually a lot of real world aspect that works in the game as well.

A very good example is when you are making a decision to invest in a particular seed to plant. When I was studying personal finance, one thing that I learned is Return On Investment (ROI).

When everything is equal, the investment instrument with a higher ROI is always better. To get a high ROI, it is best to have a short investment holding time frame.

In Farmville, the investment time frame can be measured in hours! You can actually calculate your earnings potential per hour.

Here’s a good example. Strawberries take 4 hours to mature from the time you planted them. You can then sell your strawberry harvest for 35 coins per plot of land.

Eggplants, on the other hand, take 2 days (48 hours) to mature and sell for 88 coins per plot of land.

Which plant has a better dollar per hour?

I’ll skip straight to the answers. The strawberries have a coin per hour rate of 8.75, as opposed to the eggplant’s 1.83. Do you see the drastic different?

When you know how to look at dollar per hour, you’ll play the game differently. If you are a competitive player, this Farmville secret with get you miles ahead of your friends.

You’ll make your investment decision based on the best ROI. This mean your decision about which crops to plant will have to take into account how often you want to check back on your farm, how quickly you want to level up, and how quickly you want to be able to build up your cash stores.

Go for soybean!

At the early stages of the game, soybeans are the best of the crops you have available to you. And here’s the reason why.

Soybeans only cost 15 coins to plant per plot of land, but you can sell your harvest for 63 coins per plot of land. The ROI is more than 4 times!

If you were to compare it to strawberries, it has only a ROI of 3.5 times. Obviously, higher ROI is better.

But there’s a catch, strawberries actually take lesser time to mature. So your time frame for your investment is much shorter compared to soybean.

There are many other factors that will affect your investment in Farmville, the trick here is to find the right balance.

When you just got started in the Facebook Farmville online game, your initial crop options are strawberries, eggplant, wheat, and soybeans.

Which plant should you start seeding?

Here’s a secret most Farmville newbie do not know. If you want to advance in the game quickly, you have to get experience points as fast as possible. And the secret to fast experience points is choosing the right crop to plant.

Different Crop Yields Different Experience

It may not be obvious, but different plant can yield different experience points for you. Crops that take at least a day to grow will grant you 2 experience points for each patch of land you plant them on.

Most crops will take at least this long to grow to maturity. If you want to get ahead of your fellow Farmville friends fast, choose the strawberries option!

The strawberries plant only takes a few hours to mature. In fact, your crops will be ready to harvest 4 hours after you plant them. However, it will only get you one experience point per plot of land planted. Half the experience point, but you cut down on your waiting time.

To take advantage of the fast maturity of strawberries, you have to keep a close eye on the plant. Meaning, make sure you will have access to your Farmville game in the next 4 to 5 hours after you’ve put in the strawberry seeds.

Here’s a good Farmville tip for you. You have a grace period of 8 hours to tend to your strawberry crops. After that, it will start to wilt and you won’t be able harvest them.

Repeat the plowing, seeding and harvesting of the strawberry plants quickly. Very soon, you will be collecting lots of experience points and advancing in the Farmville game.

Soon, your friends will be wondering how you manage to grow your farm so fast. You can tell them your secret, or you can just give them an evil grin ;)

To get the most out of the game, you must be able to generate sufficient cash in the bank. To do that, you need to harvest crops that are ready for the market.

1) Take baby steps.

Know how big you want your farms to get. Obviously, the more land you have, more money you’ll make. As you guessed it, plowing and planting seeds on your farm is not free.

You’ll need money to make money…yes, even in Farmville, you can’t escape the clutches of capitalism.

If you have too many farms, you’ll be wasting time if you don’t have to money to buy seeds. The key is to expand a little at a time and take advantage of the available acreage.

2) Know what to plant.

When you are starting out in Farmville, the crops available to you are strawberries, eggplant, wheat, and soybeans. Each individual crop has its benefits.

Read up on the different criteria and characteristics of the individual crop. Which crop you decide to plant will have a lot to do with how often you’re going to be checking on your farm, as well as how quickly you want to advance in the game.

3) Know when to harvest.

When deciding what crop to plant, one of the key considerations is the harvesting time. For example strawberries will be ready to be harvested 4 hours after you’ve plant them.

If you left them for more than 8 hours though, the plans will wilt and you won’t be able to make any money off of them. So, know the harvesting time of each crop.
